Some past governors, ministers, and ministry representatives, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), are being looked at for possible corruption.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, revealed this in a statement released in Abuja. He said the probe into the former government officials was prompted by public complaints about their actions while in office.
Oyewale noted that information on the officials’ participation in the aforementioned corruption cases would soon be made public while remaining mum on their identities.
He also disclosed that the EFCC recently looked into three distinct cases, during which it was able to recover N27 billion and $19 million.
The committee had earlier this year pledged to look into allegations of corruption against a number of former governors and senior officials who served as appointees to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Petitions were received in regard to a number of public officials, including some former governors, ministers, and ministry officials,” the statement stated. I can let you know that those petitions are still being looked into.
“The components of their activities and the results of our inspections are set to become public.”
Additionally, investigations into massive fraud involving federal ministry of power personnel and fraudulent agricultural procurement are still ongoing. Through a variety of Bureau de Change operators, money intended for the Mambilla and Zungeru Power projects has been misappropriated. Several homes bought with the money are currently being retrieved. The homes are located in Cross River State, Lagos, and Abuja.
The Commission has also recovered N27, 184, 357, 524, and $19, 084, 419 in three other cases, and we are still recovering.
“We are stepping up our prevention efforts, risk analysis, and recovery efforts.”
