What is Negative Space? Negative space is the area around you main subject. This subject is ”positive space”. It may be seen to some as ”dead space”, but gives your eye ”breathing space”. It can enhance compositional elements, and increase their power.

When photographing, it is tempting to ”close” your composition, and crop tightly around your subject. In many cases this is useful, but negative space can add an interesting element, and help anchor your shot.

Next time, its the opposite, filling your frame!!
