Infinity Blade is an action role playing game powered by Unreal Engine 3 technology, developed by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games, and was made available for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch). There is no word about an Android version of the application. The game was released in the Apple App Store on December 9, 2010, and remains popular in the application marketplace as of this date. This game was recently made free after being selected as Apple’s App of the Week (previously priced at $5.99 US), however, according to the application’s description this offer might not last so it’s a good chance to grab a copy of the game absolutely free.

Devices that are compatible with the game :

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPad – all iPads are supported
  • iPod Touch – 3rd, 4th and 5th gen devices

According to several reviews from the App Store, the game might crash on lower-end iOS devices. The game had no issues with lag or running on the iPhone 5 and iPad with Retina display. Most likely there will be no problems with the app on the 5th gen iPod Touch.

How is the game’s graphics?

One word to describe its graphics is, “stunning”. The game is no doubt a console-quality game. Characters are well designed, enemy’s movements are detailed, and the visual effects are amazing. One improvement to the game might have been a more detailed attack when using power or magic.

What about the gameplay? Is it fun or does it suck?

Anyone who enjoys a good live-action game on a smartphone or mobile tablet computer will enjoy Infinity Blade. The player does not have to be a fan of sword and magic games. It’s definitely worth a shot, and the best part is – the game is free, therefore there is nothing to lose except storage space on the iOS device (which can always be resolved by uninstalling the game after beating it).

The game begins with the first bloodline. Basically, the character’s father dies by the sword wielded by the God King. Now, it is up to his legacy to avenge him. The character’s level increases after defeating a certain amount of enemies. Yes, Infinity Blade is one of those games where the character receives experience points after every battle won. The game’s storyline is short, however, it will keep the gamer entertained for hours, maybe even days. Every time the player increases the character’s strength by equipping new weaponry or leveling up, new beasts and minions will replace the old, which means there is no fighting the same enemy for the entire game to get bored.

Are the controls decent?

Of course they are. To run things down for a newbie, basically, swipe the screen to attack the enemy after it appears and battle mode is active, touch the bottom right or left corner of the screen (an arrow button should be there) to dodge enemy attacks, or touch the bottom-center of the screen where the shield icon is located to block enemy attacks.

The player’s health can be viewed at the top-left corner of the screen, while the enemy’s health can be viewed at the top-right corner of the screen. The shield icon shows the gamer how many times the in-game character can shield himself, however, it is important to take note that powerful enemies have the possibility of knocking four shield points with a single blow.
