About the Author

Nellie H. Steele lives in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with her family and her many fur-babies. Nellie is an Indies Today award finalist for Best Book of the Year 2020 with Cleopatra’s Tomb. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys teaching Statistics at a local university or watching her dogs and cats play in the yard.

The Interview

Question 1: Pitch your books to us  (maximum of 100 words).  

A twisty, turny suspense ride… and that’s just book 1 of this supernatural suspense series!  Josie Benson suffers from nightmares, but why?  With no discernible source, Josie seeks answers wherever she can find them.  When a mysterious stranger arrives, he promises Josie answers.  Can she trust him to help her?  Or is he leading her further into her nightmares?  Find out what secrets lurk in the shadows of Josie’s past!

Question 2: What inspired you to write your book? 

I’m a big fan of Dark Shadows (the old 1960s soap) and it heavily influenced my writing of this series.  I’ve always wanted to do a “spooky gothic” type of book.

Question 3: Who is your book for?

Anyone who loves a supernatural mystery with a fantastic set of characters!  My books contain very little language and no bedroom scenes, so they’re great for people of all ages!

Question 4: What do you hope the book will achieve?

I really want my book to let people escape the real world for a while and immerse themselves in a different place and a cool story.

Question 6: Are you a first time author or have you written other books you want to tell us about? 

Shadows of the Past is my second published book.  I currently have four series on the market.  Shadow Slayers (of which Shadows of the Past is Book 1) is a supernatural suspense series.  Cate Kensie Mysteries is a cozy mystery series set in the Scottish Highlands.  Maggie Edwards Adventures is a globe-trotting adventure series in the vein of Indiana Jones.  Duchess of Blackmoore Mysteries is a historical mystery series with a supernatural twist.  Join Lenora Fletcher to solve mysteries using her unique talent: she can speak with the dead!

Question 7: Who is/are your favourite authors of all time?

This is a tough one!  I enjoy a variety of different authors and genres, I’m not sure I can pick one or even a handful!

Question 8: Writing a book is a significant achievement. Do you have any tips for people who may want to write a book? 

Don’t give up!  It’s not a fast or easy process, but it’s worth it!  Keep writing!

Question 9: Are you working on another project people should look out for in the future?  

Yep!  Book 4 in the Cate Kensie Mysteries will be out soon and Book 4 in the Shadow Slayers series will follow behind it.  I’m also working on a new cozy mystery series as well as a sequel to Death of a Duchess in the Duchess of Blackmoore series.
