Stress and how to deal with it

Stress is something that is external in nature that can cause a lot of internal problems for women. This external force can be very difficult to avoid and ignore. Most of the time stress will create additional challenges in your life that you will have to learn how to deal with. The way you deal with external stressors can and will affect your physical, mental, and emotional health.

When your body is undergoing extreme stress, there are several things that may occur:

  • You may develop insomnia.
  • You may begin to participate in unhealthy behaviors like smoking, drinking, and drug use.
  • You may develop migraines or other types of tension headaches.
  • You may lose your desire to eat.
  • You may begin to overeat.
  • You may begin to suffer from anxiety attacks.

The Two Types of Stress

Most stressful situations can be classified in one of two groups. Stress can be chronic or acute. Chronic stress is stress that you deal with for an extended period of time. Acute stress is stress that does not last long.

Chronic examples of stress can be: having a bad marriage or working a job that you dislike.

Acute examples of stress can be: being involved in a car accident or dealing with a delayed or cancelled airplane flight.

It does not matter whether you are dealing with stress for a short period of time or a longer period of time. All stress can and will affect any health conditions that you may have like high blood pressure and diabetes.

What Are Some Things That Causes Stress In the Body?

There are many things that can happen to you that can cause your body to go into a stressful mode. These are a few, but not limited to:

  • An injury or illness that leaves you disabled or impaired.
  • Death of a loved one.
  • A divorce.
  • Moving to a new area.
  • Financial distress.
  • Unemployment or an increased workload.
  • A relationship.

How the Body Attempts To Handle Stress

Once your body recognizes that you are under stress, it immediately goes into a fight or flight mode. Your digestive system will temporarily stop working. This is why a lot of people develop an upset stomach when they are stressed. Your heart begins to beat faster, and your breathing becomes faster. The increased heart rate causes your blood pressure to increase as well. You may even break into a sweat because your body temperature can also rise when you are dealing with stress.

Things You Can Do To Reduce the Amount of Stress You Are Dealing With

There are simple and natural ways that you can deal with stress. The first thing that you should do is trying to avoid situations that you know will stress you out. If the situation cannot be avoided, you can use other techniques like:

  • Praying
  • Meditating
  • Yoga
  • Writing in a journal
  • Exercising
  • Thinking positive thoughts

If you know that you will have a stressful situation that you will have to face, prepare for it the night before. Make sure you get a restful sleep. When you wake up, do not jump out of the bed, slowly get up. You can then meditate, pray, or exercise so you can better handle the situation.
