Things your hair cannot live without

Nigerian women and black women in general, are blessed with a wide range features that make them unique. The natural hair of black women is also unique and each woman will go through their individual trials trying to maintain the health of their hair. But, there are a few hair lessons that every black woman can benefit from when they are trying to care for their hair.

Deep Condition Your Hair

Most women are not aware of the tremendous benefit deep conditioning can bring to dry and brittle hair. If you frequent a hair stylist, they may ask you if you would like a deep condition maybe once a month. Some women decline the service because they believe it is an attempt by the stylist to charge them more.

The reality is a good deep condition is just as essential to your hair as water is to your body. If you incorporate a deep condition into your weekly hair regimen, you will be surprised at how healthy your hair will become. It will also become increasingly easier to retain your hair’s length. You can choose how long you want to deep condition your hair. Some women choose to deep condition for a few minutes, others choose to deep condition overnight. Whatever method you choose will work as long as you add some heat so your hair strands will absorb the conditioning treatment.

Give Your Scalp a Massage and Use Some Hot Oil

Hot oil treatments are another beneficial, but often neglected part of a good hair regimen. Hot oil treatments can vary in the types of oils and the method you choose to apply the oil. There are some popular techniques of application. The Greenhouse Effect, or GHE, is a fairly new but well received method of applying oils. If you are pressed for time, you can simply apply the oil to your scalp and sit underneath a hooded dryer or bonnet for 15 to 20 minutes. If you do not want to sit under a hot dryer, you can just warm the bottle of oil under warm running water, apply it to your scalp, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse.
Just as the method of applying hot oil to your scalp is varied, you can also choose different oils to use. Some women like peppermint oil because it is a scalp stimulator and it is effective at removing dandruff. Other women use castor, coconut, jojoba, or a combination that they create.
Nothing is quite as effective for hair follicle stimulator like a scalp massage. Massages increase blood flow to the scalp, and when all of the nutrients in the blood reach the follicles, they are nourished. This helps increase hair growth.

Learn to Moisturize and Seal
If you do not do anything else to your hair, make sure you use a good moisturizer on your hair. Many women rave about the effectiveness of raw Shea butter with a combination of lightweight oil like jojoba to seal the moisture in.
These are just a few of the hair lessons that can be learned by those who are looking to grow or maintain their natural hair.
