Most popular smartphone in Nigeria 2013

The year 2013 in the world of Smartphones could go down as the most competitive ever, I personally call it the year of the Phablets, with the likes of BlackBerry and Nokia now taking the back burner to the likes of android (Google) and ios (apple).

The welcome part is, Nigerians who have been crazy about blackberry, and still are, are now embracing the likes of Android and iOS devices, especially now that the BlackBerry Messenger which was the major reason people went for BlackBerry in Nigeria, is now available in Android and iOS as well.

This year has also been one of the most productive years for top mobile brands like Samsung , Google , LG , Apple and of course, Tecno who have particularly dominated the Nigerian market by storm, by producing android Smartphone at very cheap cost.

However, there are some that stood out from the crowd and were appreciated by gadget lovers.

1. The HTC One

There is no doubt that HTC One is one of the best smartphones of this year. Released in February of 2013, its 4.7 inch screen has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels ,camera resolution of 4 megapixels 2GB ram and runs on android 4.2 jellybean version.

2. Samsung Galaxy S4

It was first unveiled in March 2013, With Processor Quad core, 1900 MHz, Krait 300, Graphics processor Adreno 320, System memory: 2048 MB RAM, Built-in storage: 16 GB, Maximum User Storage: 9 GB, to have Android 4.4 KitKat update by January. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is an Android smartphone, with similar designs to the Galaxy S III, but with upgraded hardware and
an increased focus on software features that take advantage of its hardware capabilities, such as the ability to detect when a finger is hovered over the screen, and expanded eye tracking functionality (which includes scrolling).

3. Samsung Galaxy Note III.

The Samsung Galaxy Note III is the first device ever to feature 3GB of RAM. With it. It has a massive 5.7 inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 386 ppi pixel density. note 3 runs on android 4.3 jellybean version with Quad core, 2300 MHz, Krait 400 procerror and Graphics processor of Adreno 330.

In 2013, over 8million samsung galaxy smartphones has been sold this year and galaxy note 3 was key.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is looking to continue in the same vein as the original Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2, offering you a phone which could almost be mistaken for a tablet and wants you to believe it’s both.

4. iPhone 5s
Apple is widely regarded as the best smartphone makers in the world. The iphone 5s which was released in September of 2013, maintains a similar design to its predecessor, aside from the introduction of a new home button design using a laser-cut sapphire cover surrounded by a metallic ring, Touch ID, a fingerprint recognition system built directly into the home button which can be used to unlock the phone and authenticate App Store and iTunes Store purchases, and an updated camera with a larger aperture and a dual-LED flash optimized for different color temperatures.

The iphone 5s has a 4inch screen with 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm dimension and 640 x 1136 pixels, 4.0 inches . it also has a Corning Gorilla Glass and oleophobic coating. it also packs a ram of 1GB , an apple a7 chipset and runs on OS 7, which could be upgraded to iOS 7.0.4.

5. Blackberry Z10

Now the BlackBerry z10 isn’t the best ever blackberry has ever made, in fact, reports claim it was a major flop. But with the love Nigerians have for BlackBerry, this phone had good amount of patronage in Nigeria, despite it starting with an initial prise tag of N100,000, one can now get the Blackberry z10 for as little as N49,000.

Released in January 2013, the Z10 is a fully touchscreen BB10 device sporting modern specs, with cool patterned soft-touch material on the back. It has a screen size of 4.2 inch with resolution of 1280 x 768 , Ram of 2G and internal memory of 16GB.

6. BlackBerry Q10

The love Nigerians have for blackberry alone, made the Q10 an instant hit, despite it being very expensive.

Announced in January of 2013, The BlackBerry Q10 is a touchscreen-based smartphone, with Physical BlackBerry Keyboard, 720 x 720 resolution, at 330 PPI 24-bit color depth, Super AMOLED, 8 megapixel auto-focus camera, it runs on BlackBerry OS 10.

7. Tecno Phantom A+

Now Tecno may not be a house hold name globally, but they have certainly made their mark on the Nigerian market, in fact, Tecno released two Smartphones in 2013, the Tecno Phantom A+ and A 2.

When one mentions Tecno, what comes to mind is some low end phone from China. With Phantom, Tecno phones, have joined the big league.

The Tecno Phantom A+ has a large screen size of 5inches , dimension of 720 x 1280 pixels with 16million colours. It also sports a RAM of 1GB , Camera resolution of 8MP and runs on android 4.2 jellybean version.

This is one of the best ever phones made by sony. The Sony Xperia Z1 was released in September 2013, is widely regarded as the second phone with the sharpest camera because it has a resolution of 20MP, the same quality and performance as our compact digital cameras, the same screen technology as our high-end BRAVIA TVs.
