You do not have to partake in a lot of expensive salon treatments to get the thick hair that you are seeking. There are several things that you can do that will not cost you a lot of money, and will give you the results you want in a short amount of time.

The most inexpensive ways to increase the thickness of your hair is to live a healthy life. You should eat a well-balanced diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise at least 3 days a week. By doing these things you will see a gradual change in the health of your hair, and you will be healthier overall. But, if you are looking for quicker ways to achieve your goal of hair thickness, you can follow a few tips.

Increase the Time between Your Relaxers

There used to a firm rule in the hair care industry that you must have a relaxer touchup every 6 to 8 weeks. A lot of women faithfully followed this rule, and the end result was a lot of relaxed haired women walking around with thin looking hair that was lifeless. If you stretch your relaxers to only once or twice a year, your hair will instantly begin to look thicker. This is because the relaxer is not overlapping with previously relaxed hair and thinning it out. The only downside to this technique is that some women cannot deal with the two hair textures that they have after stretching their relaxers.

Learn to Texlax

Stop relaxing your hair so that it is bone straight! Even though the silky feel of bone straight hair is nice, you are really damaging your hair because there is a lot more chemical in your hair strands. Hair that is bone straight is also prone to heavy breakage.

Texlaxing is the process in which you purposely leave body in your hair while relaxing. It can also be referred to as under processing. The relaxer stays on for no more than 10 to 15 minutes before it is washed out.

If you are unsure if you are ready to texlax, you can just coat the strands of your hair with mineral oil or petroleum jelly before your relaxer service. These things create a barrier between your hair and the relaxer so the relaxer has a harder time breaking down the hair. You will see a visible difference in your hair within a year if you follow this tip.

Using Oils to Thicken Your Hair

This is a method that has been used by Caribbean women of color for generations. Coconut oil and castor oil are considered hair thickening oils. You can use these oils as a prepoo before you wash your hair, or as sealants after you moisturize your hair.
